Just start and get better later

Analysis paralysis or plain old fear. Fear of being judged, fear of being ridiculed, fear of failure, fear of not meeting your expectations, plain old fear. Instead of contemplating and overthinking everything to the point of analysis paralysis. Which later turns into a crippling fear, a fear that stops you moving forward towards your dream. Just start and get better later!

We all do it. We all contemplate or write a list about everything we might need. Be it a paintbrush, lens, laptop, instrument or some new software. Where in reality there are plenty of affordable or accessible items that we never consider using because they aren't the newest or very best. Let's dive into writing as an example. We all can write, we all have access to some form of writing medium, even if that is just a pen. Everyone can write, but that doesn't mean we can all write a novel. The person who wants to be a better writer doesn't start because they tell themselves that don't have the right, resource, skill, time, or any other plethora of excuses. But in reality, they don't start because of fear. That fear could come from social values, cultural, or it could be as simple fear that they aren't going to write a best-seller right out of the gate. But here is the catch, we are never as good as we want to be. And we will never have all the resources or skills we think we need to make good work. So you might as well start we you are.

Improvise, and start. Don't have that light? Improvise and use the sun. Don't have that software? Then rent it or start that free trial period and work your butt off until it expires. There is always a way. You might be thinking that you don't want to compromise, you only want the best. Well unfortunately then you will never start, you will never get to that point of getting the very best because there will always be something or someone better. You know that saying, the grass is always greener on the other side. It's true, we all want what we don't have. And we use that as our excuse not to start that project that will ultimately get us closer to who we want to be.

Just start, and get better later. Start now, don't worry about perfect. Perfect timing, gear, location, crew, skills. Just start, learn through doing, grow from being uncomfortable and develop through the struggle. Start filming on that old GoPro, camera or smartphone. Start writing on your old laptop with notes or that pen and paper. Don't have that perfect guitar or keyboard, borrow or rent it. There is always a way when you want to achieve that goal more than you want comfort. Start now and get the courage after the fact. Because if we all waited for perfect, then nothing would ever get done. Because perfect is an unattainable mythical place. Where you are right now, what you are doing right now, is real, it's where progress can take place if you so choose it. So you better start creating and living right now, because right now is all you will ever have.
