Everything is impermanent
Emotions, money, your health, time on this earth—none of it lasts. Some of us know this and become crippled with anxiety. Others see this reality and feel true freedom, finding beauty and peace.
How can one thing—the same reality—have such different outcomes? It all comes down to perception. Is the glass half-empty or half-full? The way you perceive the world around you determines your inner world.
If you focus on the fact that you are not happy, all you see is a void where happiness is missing. But if you don’t chase happiness, if you let it come to you, it seems effortless, naturally occurring in your life.
Nothing lasts forever, and that is what makes it beautiful. That is where a moment in time becomes so special. Being here, being in this moment, is all you have. If you don’t experience it, it will fly past you.
This is why a day can feel like forever, but a year can vanish as if nothing happened. We’re focusing on things that don’t matter—the past, the future, or the perceived lack in our lives. In reality, your life is full of abundance. It’s just your perspective that blinds you to it.
Give me time, and I will fill it with memories. Give me money, and I’ll spend my time chasing desires. One is real; the other is fleeting.
Ask yourself what is more important out of these things:
Money or health?
Time or stuff?
Memories or envy?
A phone or a holiday?
Knowledge or a title?
These questions don’t have wrong answers, but they reveal what you prioritize. Do they bring you true happiness or satisfy your ego? And remember, you can have the fancy car, the big house, the job title—but those things will fade, and new desires will replace them. You can’t take them with you when you leave this earth. No amount of money can buy true love. No house can give you more time with family. A device can record, but it cannot create memories.
We spend our lives preparing to live, always thinking about the future, waiting for the next thing. Very few of us stop, look around, and realize that we’re already here. We are in this moment. Everything is happening now. How we live our days is how we live our lives. What we think about, we believe.
Nothing is permanent. Nothing lasts forever. So enjoy this moment right now before it’s gone. Let go of the past, and stop preparing for a future that isn’t promised. Because nothing is promised, and nothing is certain.
You are the youngest you will ever be right now. You have the power to change, create, or simply be. Or you can worry, hold on, and reminisce about the past. I prefer the now because the past is gone, the future isn’t promised, and the present is real. That’s why it is called the present.
